LIKAR MED

What is the LIKAR-MED page?

This site is voluntarily supported by volunteers of the Pépinière Foundation. It offers information, assistance and free download materials to facilitate the work in the voluntary refugee aid.

Why this page?

Under the impact of the Ukraine war, our society was again challenged in a new way after Corona. Several hundred thousand refugees found their way across the Ukrainian border into the European Union, and via intermediate stops also into Germany. Civil society quickly came together and organized help on many levels for the people who sought protection here from war and displacement. In East Brandenburg, hubs formed at train stations, from which refugees traveled on to the whole of Germany. Volunteers first got involved at the train platforms, with little more than motivation and donations of food and clothing. Interpreters were often unavailable. Refugees arrived 24 hours a day, seven days a week on trains from the east. Volunteer medics and doctors provided first aid as best they could, but the language barrier did not make it any easier for those helping. Women and children often came to be housed in private homes, eventually finding their way into schools. To support these refugees and the volunteers in refugee aid we want to provide information material and language tools (e.g. the LIKAR card) on this page. In this way, we want to facilitate the work of the volunteers and simplify the arrival of the refugees. This page was funded as part of a project by the German Foundation for Commitment.
